Old school booking is proud to present 3 x thrash at Betong, Oslo the 9th of July 2010!

TRENCH HELL: Hailing from Australia playing thrash metal the old school way of course: Inspired by bands as Venom, Razor, Running Wild, Motorhead etc. these guys know their school. The band started already in 2004 and has gained a huge amount of respect in the underground since then. Having 3 official vinyl/CD releases under their belt, they are heading out on a European tour this July, and yes (!!) they are visiting Oslo the 9th of July. Check em out at www.myspace.com/trenchhell

DIE HARD: This band that formed in 2005 comes from Uppsala, Sweden and plays very aggressive thrash metal. If you like Sodom, Celtic Frost, old Slayer and Possessed, this is right up your alley. They have two 7” EPs “Emissaries Of The Reaper” & “Mercenaries Of Hell” ,one 12” EP “Evil Always Return” and one full length album to their credit and got picked up by Agonia Records for their 2009 release “Nihilistic Vision”. It should indeed kick your ass! Taste them at www.myspace/diehardthrash

ANTICHRIST: This band from Vaxjø, Sweden is very obscure. No Myspace, no web-site. BUT, they have released 2 great demos named “Crushing Metal Tape” and “Put to Death”. This band sent us their demos wrapped in death announcements cut from newspapers. This means it is a band to take good notice of. …and of course they play thrash metal the oldschool way! What the hell did you expect! All right!

DJ: Fenriz

Venue: Betong, Oslo
Price: 100/150,– (members / non-members)
Doors: 20:00

BACK TO SCHOOL CANCELLATION

We regret to announce that we have to cancel the scheduled Onslaught show the 21st of May 2010. The reason for this is that their management have stopped responding when we attempt to communicate with them, and thus making it impossible to trust and work with them.
Unfortunately it seems like Detente also chooses to cancel the scheduled show we booked with them since Onslaught cancelled.

This gig with Onslaught and Detente will however take place through a different booking agency later on. Onslaught is still up for the idea of Back to School, and when things are sorted with managements , new arrangements will be made.

Black Magic and Repellent will be re-booked for shows in Oslo later this year. Check back for exact dates.

Allright!

Noen vil bli spart til Raise The Dead 2011. Velkommen igjen på Raise The Dead i 2011. Dette er ikke over…

—

It’s with great regret we have to announce the cancellation of Raise The Dead 2010. Due to personal reasons it’s impossible to make it happen in a decent way. We aim to bring forth only the best for both artist and audience, so instead of doing things half-assed, we regrettably admit that cancellation is the best solution for all parts. We almost had the whole line-up ready with kick ass bands, and some of these bands will play single gigs in Oslo this autumn. Some will be rebooked to Raise The Dead 2011. So look out for some great shows in the near future. Updates concerning this can be found here on www.oldschoolbooking.no. Why not sign up for our newsletter (see the bottom of this site) and know it straightaway?

We would like to thank you all for coming to Raise The Dead 2009, and hope to see you again in 2011. This is not over…

CHURCH OF MISERY
Japan’s masters of Sabbathian stoner doom Church of Misery have been playing songs about serial killers since 1995 and so far no one has come close to being as good as they are. They have been described by doom-metal.com as “slow and rather raw sounding traditional doom-metal/semi-sludge with a nice groove much like, for example, St. Vitus. A true raw onslaught of Doomy music that takes no prisoners!” and this is 100% accurate.

RESONAUT
Resonaut is a trio from Trondheim who plays loud, heavy and doomy music inspired by bands such as Electric Wizard, Sleep, Pentagram, Black Sabbath and Acid King. They have played together for just over a year and are dead serious about developing themselves in the world of doom. They recently released a demo which got outstanding response from many reviewers. They also just played their first gig together with Obliteration and Diskord in Trondheim. They plan to release an EP this fall. Their main focus these days is to play devastating shows with thundering sound and hypnotizing tunes. Experience that at Elm Street.

Venue: Elm Street, Oslo

All right!

Have you ever felt the power from Hell? Then it probably had something to do with Onslaught from Great Britain. The band that formed already in 1983 and developed themselves into a pioneering thrash band by 1985. Some people give them credit for using the term “Death Metal” first. Whether this is true or not we leave up to others to verify. What we know is true is that they delivered some great records in the mid 80’s. And, yes, this very band is bringing back this power to Norway and the Betong venue Friday the 21st of May 2010.

The first time they were here was on tour with Motorhead in 1987 when they ended up on Rockefeller in Oslo. This time around they are playing their 1986 set-list exclusively. You know what this means: Only songs from their 1985 debut “Power From Hell and 1986 “The Force”. No newer stuff will be played. So this is a unique chance for those who have been there since that time to re-live this, and an opportunity for the younger audience to experience something special. Expect their thrash anthems “Onslaught (Power From Hell)”, “Death Metal”, “Angels Of Death” and the likes. Grab out those old records and prepare yourself for a classic night.

With them as support they have legendary Detente from Los Angeles, U.S.A. and Norway’s own up and coming Black Magic. Detente started in 1985 was one of the first bands to do a crossover between thrash and punk and was soon picked up by Roadrunner Records. Sharing the scene in the early days with bands like Violence, DRI, Dark Angel and others, they still know their old school.

Black Magic started as a one-man band in 2006, but now has a full live line-up, including members from Deathhammer. According to themselves they sound like “a taste of evil in the form of black/thrash.” We believe them.
Be there this night and thrash till the death and have a fight with the beast, ALRIGHT!

All right!

Be cruel to your school! Old school booking is proud to present our new theme nights named BACK TO SCHOOL. This concept is built around the idea of having old and legendary bands playing songs and set-lists from the early stages of their career. Many bands are pressed by their record companies and new releases to play recent material when they tour. BACK TO SCHOOL is the free haven for the bands to play ONLY old classics.

Fenriz from Darkthrone once said: “You don’t know if a record is good until it’s gone at least 15 years”. We believe in that philosophy too. So while we wait for new records to become good (like good wine), we listen to early material from bands. This means if we invited Metallica, they would only be allowed to play songs from “Kill ‘Em All” and “Ride The Lightning”. You get our point. We take the music from the roots and put it on stage.

If you go to gigs with bands which have been around for a while, it’s quite common to observe that it’s the old songs that get the most enthusiastic reception from the audience. So with this concept we give the bands an opportunity to play only killers and no fillers, and the audience to experience the atmosphere of old times into the bargain. It’s a win/win situation, alright!

So, old metal fans: You are invited to re-live the old times. And young bangers: It’s never too late to experience the old school. Thanx to us! Motorbreath! That’s how we live our lives. You are all very welcome to Hell! All right!

Betong, Oslo

Allright! Bullets and gunpowder! Old School booking is once again inviting living legends to Norway. This time they introduce none other than Saint Vitus. If your heart beats like there is doom at your door, it’ll skip a beat or 2 just now. Its right: saint Vitus finally lands on Norwegian ground. Believe it or not, the 20th of February 2010 they’ll be on stage at the Betong venue in Oslo.

Saint Vitus is not small news. These boys, or ehem, grown men, should need no introduction, but let’s give a quick résumé for those who are yet to be seduced by this glorious band. AAHHH!

The guitarist Dave Chandler formed the band in L.A. in the late 70s. They were one of the first doom bands to emerge from the waves of Black Sabbath’s crusade in the same decade. The name itself was taken from the Black Sabbath song “Saint Vitus Dance” from their “Vol 4” album (1972). Even if Saint Vitus had lots of Black Sabbath’s bluesy elements, they also mixed in inspiration from punk and especially Black Flag was a reference point.
After a couple of years and albums with vocalist Scott Rieber in the lead, the bone-hard Scott Weinrich took over the microphone. Weinrich, also known as “Wino” had already made himself known through his own band The Obsessed. It was nevertheless with Saint Vitus things started to escalate and his legendary status was nailed forever. Along with other American bands like Pentagram and Trouble, and the British Witchfinder General and Pagan Altar, Saint Vitus set the standard early on how doom metal SHOULD sound. 13 tons of downtuned guitar, hypnotizing, thundering riffs, a desperate and melodic clean vocal with harmonies and atmospheres sending you straight to another dimension. If you are at first trapped by doom, it’s almost impossible to convey back to reality. Bun then again, who wants that anyway!

20th of February is the date to mark at Betong. You have no reasons not to be there this night. Support acts are Swedish In Solitude and the British Centurious Ghost. A night without comparison. Doomed to be Great!

–––

Doomed to be GREAT!
